Who We Are
About
AfCFTA
Incorporated and headquartered in Accra, Ghana—the commercial capital of Africa and home to the AfCFTA headquarters—mAfriSend is an initiative of the Ghana International Trade & Finance Conference (GITFiC). The implementation of mAfriSend is expected to generate significant revenue for Member States through connectivity with their various Central Banks and revenue administrators.
The primary objective of mAfriSend is to enable interoperability and cross-border payments across Africa in alignment with the African Continental Free Trade Area. It aims to provide comprehensive support for cross-border transactions for traders, facilitating peer-to-peer exchanges, and promoting financial inclusivity and economic empowerment across the continent. mAfriSend integrates with major telecommunications networks throughout Africa and collaborates closely with various Central and Commercial Banks for settlement. A key innovation in our operational model is the use of blockchain technology for settlement, which effectively addresses the challenge of currency convertibility.

About AfCFTA
In March 2018, African Heads of State and Government gathered for an extraordinary summit of the African Union (AU) in Kigali, Rwanda, with the primary goal of signing and adopting the Agreement that established the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This initiative aims to create an economic framework for enhancing the welfare and prosperity of African citizens.
The establishment of the AfCFTA in 2018 marked a significant leap forward in Africa’s economic integration efforts. The potential of the AfCFTA has garnered increasing interest in international trade policy, primarily due to the strong commitment displayed by the parties involved in the agreement. Long after achieving political independence, Africa is now poised for economic independence, and collaborative efforts are essential for making this vision a reality.
Interoperability solutions enable the transfer of funds between various financial accounts, significantly transforming the financial landscape for everyday consumers. Improved interoperability of financial services, especially mobile money accounts, is expected to accelerate growth across the continent. mAfriSend is designed to provide technical intermediation for mobile money operators throughout Africa. Our services are open to all operators without exception, and our platform and processes are standardized to facilitate integration and ensure a seamless service experience.
mAfriSend does not compete with mobile money operators. Similar to how MasterCard and Visa operate without competing with banks, mAfriSend facilitates financial transactions between end users (such as traders and merchants) regardless of the service provider, country of origin, or destination, all within the African continent.
